    The NEBOSH General Certificate is a more detailed examination - ideal for the designated person in your company who is responsible for health and safety. It is widely respected by employers and meets the requirements of Technician Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH) and Associate Membership of IIRSM (AIIRSM).

    The course covers a wide range of topics in some depth over a ten day period. By having this qualification it will enable designated persons to take everyday health and safety decisions. Completed by undertaking an inspection of a workplace and two written examination papers.

    Many people take the qualification as a first step in a career in health and safety as it provides a valuable overview, and is a sound basis for further professional study. It is for managers, supervisors and staff from all types of organisations who need a broad understanding of health and safety issues.

  • Structure

    The NEBOSH General Certificate covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK: identification and control of workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge. The duration of the course consists of eleven days including revision, and practical examinations are undertaken in your own workplace.

    It is divided into three units each of which is assessed separately:

    • NGC1: Management of Health and Safety

    • NGC2: Controlling Workplace Hazards

    • NGC3: Health and Safety Practical Application

    Examinations for both NGC1 and NGC2 are two hour written exams completed on the same day.

    NGC3 is a practical assessment which consists of carrying out a safety inspection and preparing a brief management report.

    Entry Requirements

    No previous health and safety knowledge is required but delegates should note the assessment includes a requirement to write a short report.
