Course Overview

The NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction is established as a leading health and safety award for the construction industry. It is aimed at Supervisors, Managers and CDM co-ordinators within the construction industry who are required to ensure that activities under their control are undertaken safely.

The qualification is also appropriate for supervisors and managers working in other industries such as utilities where temporary workplaces are a feature of their activities.

The course is designed to cover general health and safety issues within a construction context as well as placing emphasis on the specific construction issues that make the industry amongst the most dangerous in which to work.

Course Duration and Structure

17 days including revision and practical examination. The course is run on a day release basis (i.e. one day per week). Exams are in March, June, September and December.

The NEBOSH Construction Certificate covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK construction work, identification and control of workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge. It is divided into three units each of which is assessed separately:-

  • NGC1: Management of Health and Safety;
  • NGC2: Managing and Controlling Hazards in Construction Activities;
  • NGC3: Health and Safety Practical Application.

Examinations for both NGC1 and NGC2 are two hour written exams. NGC3 is a practical assessment which consists of carrying out a site safety inspection, identifying hazards, recommending control measures and preparing a brief management report.

Entry Requirements

No previous health and safety knowledge is required but delegates should note the assessment includes a requirement to write a short report.
